Mobile Medical Education

As a technology-enabled mobile learning company specializing in the development and distribution of medical educational products, we understand that the first step in developing the best educational product starts with understanding the end-user; the learner. Just as a consumer possesses certain attitudes, patterns of usage and willingness to pay for shampoo or a family car, so does a doctor about medical education. We are 100% focused on educating physicians and healthcare professionals and have invested considerably in understanding what is important to healthcare providers and what drives satisfaction when they are using medical education. A key learning from our research that serves as a core benefit in all of our product-development efforts is mobility. On average, MD’s spend 314 hours a year on continuing education (all those hours are clearly not spent sitting at a desk reading journal articles or attending a live meeting or course). Now more than ever, physicians and healthcare providers require that access to their education be available instantly just like a patient’s medical records. It is this understanding that has driven the development of the following mobile medical education products and services:

Mobile eLearning

Whether a learner prefers to listen to an edited audio lecture, or watch a presentation with slides, Learner’s has developed media players that allow users to access the specific content they desire out of hundreds or thousands of lectures instantly, from a laptop, tablet or mobile phone.

Audio App:

Our advanced audio app provides the learner with greater control in managing all their educational requirements, while serving up new content based on their educational needs. Specific features include:

  • The functionality to create and manage automated playlists, while, auto-populating new content.
  • Suggested lectures based on practice profile, credit requirements, interests and self-assessment tests
  • Knowledge assessments to help identify and address knowledge gaps
  • Credit tracker to help manage state and board requirements
  • Automatic reporting of credits
  • Real time synching across devices

On Demand Audio Visual Player:

The Learner’s Digest state-of the-art media player is a one-stop shop for healthcare professionals. From a single media player, healthcare providers can:

  • Watch a presentation containing slides and synced audio, providing the learner the same experience as an attendee of a live presentation
  • Search a term across the entire On Demand catalogue and be directed to the exact slide or slides containing this term
  • Download MP3 audio files to listen to presentations on-the-go.
  • Download PDF files of slides, syllabi summaries, or any additional visual aids to complement the learning experience
  • Bookmark favorite presentations
  • Take CME test and generate a Certificate of Completion

Mobile Journal Publishing

Audio-based education is an efficient, effective and popular way to remain up-to-date. Learner’s Digest has successfully created partnerships between major medical societies and the Audio Digest Foundation to expand their prominent printed medical journals into edited audio journals. Audio Journals allow organizations to expand the reach of their education by attracting incremental users who prefer audio lectures as their modality of choice. These physicians seek an efficient form of education that can convert unproductive commuting and downtime (20 hours per month), to productive learning time. Audio Journals are available on CDs, MP3 downloads or via mobile apps, making it convenient for physicians to learn on-the-go.

The typical audio-journal services provided by Audio Digest include:

  • Development of a 2-4 hours of content per month (both online and on CD’s)
  • Written summaries and CME test questions for each issue
  • An average of 4 Category 1 Credits per month

Live Streaming Web casts

Learner’s Digest, in partnership with Sonic Foundry, can deliver a seamless live streaming virtual meeting service, expanding the reach of live events to healthcare professionals in other markets, both domestically and globally.

Our technology allows for content to be streamed live and can also be made available to users On Demand after the meeting. In addition, the technology platform can incorporate Q&A and viewer polling to allow virtual attendees to participate in the live event.

Our marketing services team can assist in marketing and selling the live, virtual meeting as a standalone product or in combination with an On Demand product.

Society Partnerships

Our core competency at Learner’s Digest is capturing and disseminating medical education through advanced technology. We have leveraged this experience to partner with medical associations to expand the reach and revenue associated with enduring products from live meetings. Some of our partners include the American College of Cardiology, American Academy of Neurology, American Psychiatric Association, Digestive Disease Week and many more.

Throughout the years of working with top medical societies and institutions globally, we have uncovered some common goals shared by these organizations. They all wish to:

  • Extend the reach of their education to the broadest audience possible
  • Deliver a superior enduring product with cutting-edge technology for the best possible learning and user experience
  • Generate new or increased revenue for the association

We understand that a successful session-capture project not only meets the needs of our clients, but also the needs of those who are purchasing and/or viewing the content. Just as a consumer possesses certain attitudes, patterns of usage and willingness to pay for shampoo or a family car, so does a doctor about medical education.

As a medical education company that is 100% focused on educating physicians and healthcare professionals, we have invested considerably in understanding what is important to physicians and other healthcare professionals and what drives satisfaction when using medical education products. We use this research and our understanding of medical professionals to continually update our products and services to better meet the needs of our clients and the end-customer.

Capturing your meeting is just the start. Your meeting content will be delivered through a state-of-the-art media player designed by product-development experts who have studied the preferences and behavior patterns of health care professionals when it comes to consuming enduring materials. Our player is designed around the concept of convenience. The Learner’s Digest media player is a one-stop shop for healthcare professionals where they can:

  • Watch a presentation containing slides and synced audio, allowing the learner to have the same experience as an attendee of a live presentation

Learner’s Digest understands that the way in which a learner choses to access education is important in driving satisfaction and repeat utilization. While the world is moving online, our quantitative and qualitative research shows that a segment of healthcare professionals still desire a physical product, such as a DVD, USB drive, or hard drive, in addition to online access.

LDI produces On Demand products with or without a physical product. We will counsel our clients on the best product-delivery option that addresses the preferences of your target audience (looking at specialty and type of healthcare professional).

Marketing & Sales

The primary reason to invest in capturing the content from your meeting is to expand the number of people referencing your educational content and the amount of time they interact with your content. Increasing the reach of your content will only be successful with a solid, proven marketing plan.

We will implement a robust and disciplined marketing approach using market research, data, proven marketing strategies and tactics and a proprietary marketing database of over 1 million healthcare professionals to help our clients grow both revenue and units sold.

Pre Meeting Marketing

The single most effective pre-meeting marketing strategy is selling to attendees when they are registering for the meeting. We will provide best practices in activities designed to get registered attendees to add your On Demand product to their registration. For those attendees who register for the meeting but do not initially add On Demand to their registration, we will employ marketing tactics that take potential customers directly to our ecommerce store front to purchase your product. This allows for all orders to integrate seamlessly into our system and enables us to quickly facilitate product fulfillment after the meeting.

In addition to marketing to attendees, we have successfully launched marketing campaigns to non-attendees. Our proprietary quantitative research data show that the availability of an On Demand offering does not impact attendance to your live event, but in fact brings in incremental customers above and beyond members and attendees generating incremental revenue for our client partners.

Marketing During the Meeting

Learner’s will develop an outreach plan during the meeting designed to create awareness of your On Demand product as well as the variety of convenient ways an attendee has to purchase the product. This is complemented with continued efforts targeting non-attendees as the meeting presentations go live in your On Demand product. Some typical marketing activities we can develop and execute during a board review or large-scale annual meeting include:

  • On-site sales booth location and design: With years of experience, we can provide recommendations on sales booth locations as well as best-practice design for attracting traffic and streamlining the purchase process. Our Trade Show Manager will manage all logistics and details related to setting up the booth, securing equipment and materials, etc.
  • Sales Booth Staff: Our onsite sales booths are staffed with sales professionals with trade show sales experience as well as specific skills in selling to physicians and health care professionals. Our onsite reps will also handle customer service questions with minimal client involvement, allowing you to focus on the meeting.
  • Direct Response collateral: An extensive portfolio of emails, web ads, direct mail pieces, bag inserts and brochures will be designed and distributed, all containing unique landing pages and source codes. This allows us to have the broadest campaign possible while tracking the effectiveness of each individual collateral piece

Post Meeting Marketing

LDI will put together a comprehensive post-meeting plan for each client that leverages both the society’s lists (attendees, members, etc) as well as our own proprietary marketing database. Our team of medical editors will review the conten of your meeting to determine what other specialties may be interested in purchasing your On Demand product. This plan will seek to engage as many different types of marketing activities possible to create a surround-sound plan. Campaigns typically include direct mail, post cards, emails, web ads, print/journal ads and Search Engine Marketing.

International & Institutional Sales

Working with our network of international partners, Learner’s Digest will identify opportunities for international bulk sales. Leveraging our European office, we have reputable partners in various regions of the world, including Europe, the Middle East, Far East and South America. These partners typically sell bulk accesses of an On Demand product to a supporter who will distribute access to their constituents at no cost to the physician, representing a significant source of incremental revenue that does not cannibalize existing international sales. Additionally, we can put together a plan to target specific institutions and create custom distribution opportunities designed to expand the reach of your meeting content.

Marketing Analysis and Effectiveness

Every piece of marketing collateral, physical or electronic, sent to each audience is uniquely “source-coded” allowing us to track both the effectiveness of a particular type of collateral and the response rate by audience type. These analytics are prepared by our in-house marketing team and presented by our Client Engagement Team.

CME Services

Learner’s Digest has commissioned proprietary market research on the impact of CME for enduring educational materials. Our research indicates that 71% of physicians state the ability to claim CME/CE is important in their decision to purchase medical education. Whether purchasers actually claim credit or not, having CME/CE accreditation on your enduring material serves as an implied endorsement of high-quality education.

Some societies choose not to accredit enduring materials because the ACCME guidelines to accredit the enduring material in addition to the live meeting are too onerous and time consuming on an already over-taxed education staff. Learner’s Digest can bridge this gap by taking on the majority of the back-office effort for CME/CE services, while enabling the society to still be the accrediting body. Our CME Department can provide any (or all) of the following services:

  • Front Matter Templates that are ACCME-compliant
  • Collection of test questions from presenters using online survey tools
  • Online Testing (post-test and optional evaluation survey):
    - Integrated into Meeting on Demand products
    - High-quality, high-volume credit processing enabled by Audio-Digest’s state-of-the-art online education systems
  • Generation of online certificates with society’s accreditation statement, logo, signature etc.
  • Tracking of all credits claimed
  • Detailed reporting of participation, test scores, and evaluation questions/comments
  • Customized needs-assessment surveys and “Changes in Behavior” follow-up tools
  • Scrupulous review of all CME materials by Accreditation experts

Audio-Digest Foundation, a division of Learner’s Digest, is an ACCME-accredited organization, issuing over Two Million Category 1 Credits in 2013, and more than 23.8 Million CME/CE credits over our lifetime. We are independently accredited by various non-physician healthcare organizations (eg, ANCC’s Commission on Accreditation, AANP).

Support Services

Our 12-person customer service team provides first-class service to existing customers (access questions, billing, and general inquiries). In addition, we have specialized technical customer service representatives who can walk through a customers’ specific technical set-up (operating system, browser etc.) and troubleshoot any user-specific technical issues, such as firewalls, security requirements for different systems etc.

Our product fulfillment team, located in Los Angeles, assembles, fulfills and ships over a million products per year, including CD’s, DVD-ROMs, USB drives and hard drives. They have a deep understanding of international customs and duties issues, to help ensure every order is fulfilled successfully and received by the purchaser.

Quality Control
Our Quality Control team conducts a full review both during and after a meeting capture. Their scope of responsibilities are wide, from reviewing each presentation to ensure it matches the capture schedule, to testing the full functionality of On Demand products (both online and physical products) on a variety of major operating systems and web browsers. This plan will seek to engage as many different types of marketing activities possible to create a surround-sound plan. Campaigns typically include direct mail, post cards, emails, web ads, print/journal ads and Search Engine Marketing.

Marketing Vehicles and Additional Distribution

Direct Mail: Primarily used as part of Post Meeting Campaigns, direct mail continues to generate strong response rates for our clients. Experience has demonstrated the highest response rates are generated by a combination of direct mail and email.

Email Marketing: Email marketing is a critical and growing part of every marketing plan before, during and after the meeting. Our email database contains over 300,000 doctors and we deliver almost 4,000,000 emails each year. Learner’s utilizes SilverPop as our custom email management platform. SilverPop emails are “white-listed” and therefore increase delivery rates to over 99%.

Online Marketing & Social Media: Our research has identified the social media sites that healthcare professionals use professionally and personally. We will develop a social media advertising plan targeting those specific sites to ensure maximum reach. In addition, our search engine analysts will identify and continually monitor the most impactful search terms that will drive incremental users on the web directly to your product through Search Engine Optimization.

International & Institutional Sales: Working with our network of international partners, Learner’s Digest will identify opportunities for international bulk sales. Leveraging our European office, we have reputable partners in various regions of the world, including Europe, the Middle East, Far East and South America. These partners typically sell bulk accesses of an On Demand product to a supporter who will distribute the access codes to their constituents at no cost to the physician representing a significant source of incremental revenue that does not cannibalize existing international sales. Additionally, we can put together a specific plan to target specific institutions and create custom distribution opportunities designed to expand the reach of your meeting content.

Meeting Capture Technology

Learner’s Digest leverages Sonic Foundry’s award-winning Mediasite technology, recently recognized by PCMA as the bestcapture solution in the market. This flexible technology can be used to capture large annual meetings with multiple concurrent sessions as well as small one-room courses such as board review prep courses. Features and benefits of this technology include:

  • High Resolution Capture for crisp, clear slides even with busy charts and images.
  • Full Motion Video allows for all animations and videos to be viewed in the highest quality, critical for procedure-intensive specialties.
  • Smooth Streaming serves up content to end-users based on their device and bandwidth, eliminating buffering
  • Rapid Turnaround Time allows content to go live in 24 hours or less.
  • Mobile Access provides users the flexibility to view content on a mobile device such as iPad.

On Demand Products

Capturing your meeting is just the start. Your meeting content will be delivered through a state-of-the-art media player designed by product-development experts who have studied the preferences and behavior patterns of health care professionals when it comes to consuming enduring materials. Our player is designed around the concept of convenience. The Learner’s Digest media player is a one stop shop for healthcare professionals where they can:

  • Watch a presentation containing slides and synced audio, allowing the learner to have the same experience as an attendee of a live presentation

Account Management
LDI understands that being a valuable partner means minimizing work for your staff and taking on responsibility for most operational aspects of any project. At the heart of each client project is a Client Engagement Professional who will be the primary point of contact for the project.

Inside Sales
Our highly trained sales professionals handle the calls of healthcare professionals responding to one of our direct response marketing efforts or who are simply calling to see what new products are available to assist them in their continuing education. These sales professionals are trained on each client's On Demand product, answering questions on content as well as cross-selling your product to a steady stable of health care professionals who proactively call our associates to learn about new products available. This is one of the many ways Learner’s Digest can expand the reach of a society’s content beyond the membership.

Customer Service
Our 12-person customer service team provides first-class service to existing customers (access questions, billing, and general inquiries). In addition, we have specialized technical customer service representatives who can walk through a customers’ specific technical set-up (operating system, browser etc.) and troubleshoot any user-specific technical issues, such as firewalls, security requirements for different systems etc.

Product Fulfillment

This team also implements any requested edits, such as slide withholds for slides with sensitive information.

Marketing Analysis and Effectiveness

Every piece of marketing collateral, physical or electronic, sent to each audience is uniquely “source-coded” allowing us to track both the effectiveness of a particular type of collateral and the response rate by audience type.
